How to Install AMD Drivers on Windows Vista Click for download!

Microsoft’s Windows Vista operating system is more stable and easier to use than its predecessors. In most cases, adding peripherals is a simple matter of plugging them in. Once plugged in, the operating system is designed to detect the new hardware and add the appropriate device drivers. Occasionally, you will need to install device drivers manually if the operating system doesn’t have them pre-installed. For example, if you are installing an AMD motherboard or chipset to your computer, you may need to install AMD drivers as well. Here’s how.

First, install the AMD hardware as instructed by the manual provided with the device. Make sure that all connections are firmly seated. Turn on your computer and allow Windows to load. Once loaded, it should detect your new hardware automatically and start the setup process. If you do not have administrative privileges on the computer, you won’t be allowed to install the device drivers. Make sure to log on under an account that has the appropriate administrative privileges.

Open the CD drive and insert the installation disc that came with your AMD device. If your AMD device is a Vista-certified hardware component, Windows will automatically detect it. If not, you will see a screen asking you to choose the type of hardware that you are installing.

Next, follow the prompts on the screen. Each step builds on the next, walking you through each installation task. Some AMD motherboards and chipsets require more than one driver. If so, you’ll be prompted to install each one.

Occasionally, Windows doesn’t automatically offer to install the device drivers and you will have to do so manually. When this happens, go into the Control Panel and select Device Manager. Find the AMD device in the list and right-click it. Choose Update Driver Software from the sub-menu that appears. If you have the installation disk, choose the option to browse your computer for the device driver and point to the appropriate location.

After installing an AMD device driver, you can also run a check to see if an updated driver has replaced the one you just installed. Do this in Device Manager once again right-clicking the AMD device. This time, choose Properties. Click on Update Driver and choose the option that automatically searches the Internet for device drivers. If an updated driver from AMD is found, you’ll be prompted to install it. If not, you’ll get a message saying that you have the most current driver available for the device.

Any time that you install new device drivers for AMD devices or any other type, make sure that you select the correct version for your Windows Vista operating system. While some device drivers are universal for all operating systems, some are specific to certain operating systems. It’s critical to choose the correct drivers.

Another consideration when upgrading your motherboard, chipset, or any other piece of hardware on Vista computers is that many devices are not Vista compatible. Make sure to check before investing the time and money into these devices.
