How to Restore Drivers in a Dell Computer Click for download!

If your Dell computer’s hardware starts acting up on you, chances are the drivers have become corrupt. You can restore the drivers in a Dell computer if you can located the original drivers and reinstall them on your computer.

Dell computers ship with various CDs for occasions such as this. For example, if your computer no longer plays sound or the screen looks out of whack, the device drivers may need to be restored. Once restored, let the music play and the pictures come shining through!

To get started, you will need to find the Dell Driver CD which is usually clearly labeled with the word “Drivers.” Place this disc in your computer’s CD-ROM drive. The computer should show a screen asking you which drivers to install. If you already know which drivers are bad, you can select them from the list. If not, you will need to find out which drivers have gone bad.

To do this, go to the Control Panel and click on Device Manager. Device Manager lists all installed devices on your machine. It also uses a visual display system to tell you when something is awry. If you see any devices with a yellow exclamation point, they are bad and these are the device drivers that you must replace.

Go back to the Dell Driver CD’s screen and select the appropriate drivers for restoration. You may have just one device driver to load or several depending on the extent of the damage. For example, if your motherboard drivers have gone bad, you will have several different components that reside on the motherboard that may need to have their drivers restored.

What if you can’t find the Dell Driver CD? Dell keeps a list of device drivers and makes them available for download on their website. Go to the Dell website and navigate to the technical support area. In the driver download area, you will be prompted to enter your computer model and operating system. This allows the website to provide you with the exact device drivers your Dell computer needs. Download the device drivers to your computer. If the downloads are self-launching, follow the installation prompts. If not, use Device Manager to update the devices with their correct device drivers. Find the device in the list and right-click it. Choose Update Device Driver Software. Choose the browse option, navigate your way to the downloaded device drivers, and follow the installation prompts.

If you have several devices to update, do them one at a time and check each one individually to be sure the procedure worked as expected.

When you download device drivers from Dell, make a note of where you saved them so that when it’s time to browse your PC for device drivers, you’ll know exactly where to look. If you have paid for Dell tech support or your computer is still under warranty, take advantage of it! They are happy to help you with your device driver problems. If your warranty has expired, you may have to pay to speak with a Dell technical support technician.
